Four Pages You'll Never Get Back

Hi guys! I'm back from my holiday. If you were wondering what I had been up to prior to that (apart from the Feature Fridays) I was working on my entry for Vintage Books' Graphic Short Story Prize.

Once the competition is over I'll be able to share the whole of my comic with you but until then here is a sample featuring three of my favourite panels:

If any of you enter please let me know - I'd love to see your entries too!

If, on the other hand, you prefer reading short graphic stories to writing and drawing them Vintage have provided a whole collection of short comics for you to read for free online: Shorties! The Best of the Graphic Short Story Prize 2007-2011.

Want to Feature on the Blog?

Are you an artist / musician / band / writer / animator / film maker / comic book geek?

Do you think you are suitable for a feature on Enchanted Blogging?

If so send me a comment about what you're about and I'll share you with the world! I love featuring new talent!

Also please send me suggestions for more Friday Features and Bat Freaks! I'd especially like some weird Batman stuff to freak out about with you guys :-)

Friday Feature - The Hush Sound

This week's Friday feature is The Hush Sound, a four piece (three guys one girl) indie jangle band from Illinois, United States. I'm not going to lie - I love these guys - their music is both elegant and eloquent. Their deep, dark lyrics counterpoint their bright, joyful (and extremely skilled) instrumental melodies only exemplified by their tight vocals harmonies courtesy of Bob Morris (now of Stamps) and dreamy voiced Greta Salpeter (now of Gold Motel). To put it simply: their music is catchy as hell.

Where will I have heard them before?

Their single 'Honey' appears in the 'All About Appearances' episode of Privileged whilst Tommie Sunshine's Brooklyn Fire Retouch of 'Wine Red' appears in the film Snakes on a Plane along with many other Decaydance / Fueled by Ramen bands, whose label they are on. They are currently on hiatus (boo) however are considering an Autumn 2012 tour (yay)...though probably only in America (boo again).

Featured Song: Wine Red

Where can I hear more?

The Hush Sound released three albums. Like Vines (2) and Goodbye Blues (3) are easily available for download or as a hard copy in America however So Sudden (1) is only available as a hard copy in the USA / as an American import (which makes it much more expensive). Due to its price I would recommend buying Like Vines and Goodbye Blues before investing in So Sudden. It is just as good an album as the other two but is definitely less polished so for fans of the indie jangle genre / Hush Sound-Gold Motel-Stamps triangle only.

What is their website?

Next week: I'll be on holiday. When I return we will continue our Hush Sound journey with Greta's new band Gold Motel.

Friday Feature - Liam Frost

This week's Friday feature is Liam Frost, an alternative folk singer from Manchester, England. Liam takes his listeners on an emotional journey not only combining extremely catchy upbeat sing-a-long songs with heartfelt ballads but packing each song with so much story and life experience you can actually see the lyrics come to life as he sings them.

Where will I have heard him before?

Liam was part of The Slow Down Family but now performs solo. His single 'The Mourners of St Paul's' was voted number one single of 2006 by Channel 4's Planet Sound and the epic 'Your Hand in Mine' featuring Martha Wainwright was staple airplay on xfm during 2010. Since then however Liam's been a little quiet...hopefully writing a new album!

Featured Song: Your Hand in Mine

Where can I hear more?

Youtube only unless you want to trust me and buy his two albums 'Show Me How The Spectres Dance' and 'We Ain't Got No Money, Honey, But We Got Rain' which you can get for the bargain price of around £4.99 each depending on where you look.

What is his website?

Next week: we remember the band that spawned Gold Motel and Stamps...The Hush Sound

Something a little different this week - five of my favourite Corin Hardy music videos. Corin is an animator, director and master of the macabre (also a really nice guy). I promise that by the end of this post Corin will have blown you away!

Martin Grech - 'Guiltless'

The Prodigy - 'Warriors Dance'

Horrors - 'She IS the New Thing'

Paolo Nutini - 'Pencill Full of Lead'

The Horrible Crows - 'Behold the Hurricane' (I absolutely love this song)

Next week: Liam Frost
